This function is the default for a middle click in Mozilla Firefox, but with the software included with the Logitech MX1000 rechargeable wireless laser mouse, Logitech’s SetPoint Settings, the middle click is reassigned to do zoom. This is not effective for the kind of work I do. So I set about finding a way to change it. Turns out that you need to choose “Other” as the function, click the “Set Function” button, and then choose “Generic Button”. That did the trick. Awesome — thanks, Logitech! Good software.

I didnt know this about that middle click. This is a very usefull topic. Nice work.

Great. thanks for putting this useful tip.

Thanks for the tip! I bought a Logitech V270 which also has SetPoint software and the middle button behaviour really annoyed me. But after I found your website I was pleased again with the mouse.
Thank you again!!! -
Thank you it did it the trick beautifully.

Great! Was looking for that!! Really helpful! Thanks heaps

Ah, found this post through google and it was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a lot! By the way, with setpoint labeling the middle button as “autoscroll” you can doubleclick the middle button to do the same, but that was too much of a pain… Thanks!

Thanx! Just what I’ve been looking for!
-
you rock man I’ve been trying to figure out why it wouldn’t work XD
-
thanks a lot. This has been bugging me for a long time.

I have the same issue. I used this tip, but it didn’t work. It still opens a new link in a new window, not a new tab in the current window.
Anyone have a solution! This is a real pain and highly inefficient.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

-
Ahhh thank you! 2 weeks stuck without middle click was horrible.
-
Hallelujah!!!!!!!! Installed the software and was getting irate at the fact that it hijacked normal middle-click functions. Very useful tip which didn’t seem to be available on Logitech’s site.
Can finally surf as normal! Thank you

Hey turns out exactly the same is true for a lot of the newer Dell mice too. For a short while I thought Firefox 2.0.x had disabled this feature!
Why would a hardware manufacturer try to do that? So cheeky and irritating.
Thanks
