Yahoo announced that it plans to dramatically raise the storage limit for its free email users while also giving its premium subscribers “virtually unlimited” capacity.
These upgrades were revealed by Yahoo executives at an analyst meeting last week, where the company demonstrated that it is ready to take on Google, which grabbed headlines with the announcement of their 1GB free email service, Gmail.
In response to this offer, Yahoo will raise their limits from the current 4MB or 6MB to 100MB, a spokesman for the company confirmed.
Meanwhile, premium subscribers who currently pay lots of money for just 100MB of storage will be given “virtually unlimited” space. A Yahoo spokeswoman said that “it will be hard for users to perceive that there is a limit.”
