Xanga.com specialises in blogging (mainly). You’re totally wrong when you say you can’t customize it without going for premium. I used to believe that too, but just visit Createblog.com and Blogrings.net… There’s a lot of stuff you can do to personalise your Xanga, and all you have to do is just copy and stick in a code! If you can’t manage to do something as simple as that, then something must be wrong here.
But you can just make a decent page similar to this using what you’ve already got in Xanga’s Customise Look & Feel.
About that banner Ad, you shouldn’t be complaining since that’s one of the ways in which Xanga makes money. That’s why Xanga Classic is free. As far as I know, if you want a banner-free blog anywhere else, then you’d have to pay for it anyway. No big deal. (If you want to use scripts to hide it, then that’s up to you, but personally I wouldn’t recommend it)
And didn’t you know you could use Xanga as a business site? Erm…that should be explained in the FAQS.
