Motive SmartBridge

The Motive SmartBridge background task is installed with Verizon Online’s software which is included with their residential DSL service. It has an autoupdate prompt which runs at startup. I disabled it on my computer simply because I don’t know exactly what it does. Since I don’t have a use for it and anything running uses up some memory, I’ll keep it that way. Thank you Elliot and anyone else who gave their time to help us non-technical people. I had no idea it had anything to do with Verizon. On AOL it’s very clear it’s an AOL update– same with Earthlink. Why can’t Verizon leave us a copy of our mail on the Server. Even if in the cc or bcc or in the group being sent to, they still give me half a copy. I find this really irritating. Does anyone else feel the same way?

I have win-98/cox fast connect(phx Az). I get the dialog box that reads- Motive directory has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. apprx. once in three or four times when I start my pc. Just recently started. Any suggestions?

As all of you, I just got the Motive Smartbridge update box this morning. I clicked update, but thankfully, it did not complete for some reason. After that, I went to Google and found this excellent Blog. Thank you Elliot. After reading this, I am going to do exactly as was directed to provent the problem.

However, I have another problem sometimes with my computer that I was wondering if anyone has run in to……

I have Verizon DSl and have had for about 15 months. For about the last 6 months, when I log on to my computer (if I have not been on for a while), and I try to access the internet, it will not work. I always have to restart my computer and then it works fine. When my computer is shutting down to restart, I get a dialog box that states: CCAPP (I think this is it) shutting down. Does anyone know exaclty what this is. It is directly related to my problem, however I can not get anyone to answer it. I have called Verizon about this and they have pointed to Microsoft indicating it is their problem, however, I have a hard time thinking it is Microsoft problem cause when I start my computer again, all is fine.

Thanks again for the great blog. I hope someone else has run into the problem I just mentioned.

Have a great day

Doug

This is the best and most informative place I found when I searched Motive Smartbridge on google. Thanks! I just uninstalled Verizon Online Support Center and it fixed the problem.

Have been trying to find out what this was.
Thanks
