The Motive SmartBridge background task is installed with Verizon Online’s software which is included with their residential DSL service. It has an autoupdate prompt which runs at startup. I disabled it on my computer simply because I don’t know exactly what it does. Since I don’t have a use for it and anything running uses up some memory, I’ll keep it that way. Read the comments to learn about removing verizon online support center.

For Doug and Harvey: CCAPP is a Norton program. It seems to be the backbone for any and all Norton programs, whether Antivirus, System Works, or Internet Security. Try checking with Norton (Symantec) for more answers. Or use this or the other page mentioned here for info on CCAPP. Will add more if I learn more.
For Elliot and others: great info in msb. I’m wondering if it could have been initiated by Microsoft, and they made Verizon put it in their folder. Seems like most people have Verizon dsl with msn bundled in.
Thanks for the info! Uninstalled Verizon Support in Add/Remove Programs.
Some notes:
- The program does indeed cause issues with Outlook Express. (Choose ‘Switch Identity’ and the selection will move to the bottom of the list. Or, choose spell checker, and the selection will move to the bottom of the suggested words.)
- Internet connection appears to drop more frequently when uninstalled. (Repairing the connection in XP fixes it for ~15 mins.)
- Spontaneous reboots occur (0×0000050 I think), possibly related to dropping connection or looking for uninstalled program
well if there is a billing issue it will pop up
Thank you! I thought I would never get rid of the Motive Smartbridge Update Notice. It’s been bugging me for two weeks. Since I am computer stupid, I thought I didn’t know what was installed and what wasn’t. Thanks for all your help. You made it easy.
Wow! Unchecking Motive SmartBridge (from Startup) also stopped the Revenue Ad window from popping up. That’s been bugging me for a long time. How did that happen?
