From my searches, it appears that a fix can be hacked up using <a href="http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=29118&group_id=130826" rel="nofollow">these instructions</a> to install <a href="http://fisheye1.cenqua.com/browse/gaim/gaim/src/gaim-remote.py" rel="nofollow">this script</a>. I'm downloading Python while I slumber (<a href="http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.4.3/python-2.4.3.msi" rel="nofollow">quick link</a>) and hopefully can resume hacking something together in the morning. I found your post when searching for the exact same thing. According to my posts, the old way of doing this which involved gaim-remote was obsoleted in the 2.0 betas.
