The first update that Firefox tried to download and install failed. But it then tried again with a full download, which worked. What was a little strange is that Firefox opened a browser window after the failed install; but that makes sense considering that I didn’t have to try again with the full version, and that Firefox had previously closed my browser windows for me when restarting.
