Microsoft Word: Remove Email Toolbar

There was a giant email toolbar that appeared in my instance of Microsoft Word 2002 (correction: Microsoft Word 2003), and turning off all of the toolbars would not remove it.

Google Ambassador for USC

So I’m the official Google Ambassador for USC. Today I received another package containing a Google visor, bag, notepad, and 7 cards promoting the Google Gadget Awards. She also threw in an FAQ for the Google Ambassador program. Google is awesome.

IE 7 was released earlier this week. Firefox 2 was just released. Sam Park suggests www.ie7.com ;)

What’s the happiest moment of your life?

18 months ago, Scott Adams, author of the Dilbert comic strip, permanently lost his voice due to a disorder known as Spasmodic Dysphonia. Nobody has ever recovered from it.

Ming Hsieh Gave Me His T-Shirt

This morning, I thought to myself that I was very dissatisfied with my classes. CS 499 is boring. Math 226 is explained terribly. ITP 477 is cool (ask me about this if you’re interested). I still need to start writing for the Core 103 midterm Thursday. EE 101 is the one class that’s going well and is interesting– but my roommate keeps telling me about how bad his upper-division EE courses are. I considered what it would take to transfer.
Well, my attitude has changed completely. This afternoon, the USC Department of Electrical Engineering held a special announcement. I left lunch with Natalie to arrive nearly 10 minutes early to make sure I didn’t miss anything. It was a good event, with a video about EE at USC, the Trojan Marching Band (TMB), Andrew Viterbi, Steven Sample, and so on.

Hard work, not talent, leads to greatness

There’s an article in Yahoo Business today that says it takes hard work to become great. I agree.

eBay with Video

Why doesn’t someone make eBay with video? I’d like to see a ~1 minute demo of whatever it is I’m buying, giving me a sense of its condition, size, and what it looks like from different angles. Make it easy: let people upload videos with a click, like YouTube, and display them using a Flash video player.

The Time Machine and other Science Fiction

Slashdot recently ran a story saying that the human species may soon split in two. The interesting thing is not the article, which is ridiculous, but the comments that people have left on Slashdot. I read through all the Score: 5 ones (and a few others with interesting titles), and they are excellent. Of course, links to science fiction are drawn; some jokes people make might go over most people’s heads; but it’s great nonetheless.

For the first time, married households no longer the majority

Yahoo News says that marriage is losing its edge. A new survey has shown that traditional marriage has ceased to be the preferred living arrangement in the majority of US households. The findings were released in August. Nearly 55.8 million American family households, or 50.2%, were unmarried. Continue reading ‘For the first time, married households no longer the majority’

Google mentions USC in their blog

…in a post about the ASU Sun Devils. Well, they lost the game despite having Google Apps for Education, but that got me thinking– why doesn’t USC do the same? The USC email system sucks in comparison with Gmail.
