Share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display (even if one system has multiple displays)– without special hardware. Sounds awesome– could make me opt for a laptop/desktop combo instead of switching to a laptop exclusively. Synergy

Ah, I love computers, and I could easily use the capabilities of faster ones, and with Synergy, use more than one at a time. But I really only have one working computer, mainly because I’m saving money. I’ve been taught to be very frugal, so I only spend money when it’s really necessary. And thus, I wonder what opportunities I’m missing out on– like installing OS X on a ThinkPad. That’s the amazing thing about Synergy. It’s something like a software kvm switch. According to the website, you have one computer which runs the Synergy server. You have your mouse and keyboard connected to this PC. Then, Synergy redirects mouse and keyboard output to the appropriate computer over TCP/IP networking! It’s better than a kvm switch– you redirect your cursor just by moving it off-screen– and it requires no special hardware!
kvm switch? I don’t see how you can get around “special hardware”
