I just signed up for Ucash.in, created by the folks behind Flixya. The idea is that you can turn links into cash, because they show ads– either with frames or intermissions– and split the revenue with you. Yesterday, I talked with my friend Steven. We’ve been friends for many, many years. However, he has selected a much different path than mine, and we haven’t talked much recently. The main thing that struck me from our conversation is that he doesn’t know what to do with his life. What to spend his time on, what kind of job to get, what kind of life to live. He’s taking some time off from school, and it’s mainly for the purpose of finding a job. But he has only vague ideas of the job he’s seeking. My impression was that he needed motivation.
I recently picked up this small booklet from a local Target retailer. It was a great read, especially for a disorganized person like me. (Note, though, that organization is learned, not inherited.) A good portion of the book talks about setting very specific plans, missions, and goals for cleaning up and organizing. Why do they spend so much time on such trivial talk, when they could instead be getting down to the nitty gritty techniques that really make a difference? (These techniques are also included.) I made a number of updates to my mom’s parenting website, including:
- Fixed padding around images,
- Adding the MySpace image to the featured post’s excerpt,
- Removing dates from posts,
- Fixing the archive excerpts,
- Fixing the titles of the Archive pages,
- And fixing the Podcast Archive.
Can you believe it? It feels like just yesterday I was working at my summer internship with Google. It was truly an amazing experience, and very humbling to work with such bright people. Recently, I’ve been catching myself wishing that other people were smarter. Well, it’s usually me who’s the dumb one. At the same time, I realized the potential I really did have to pull off some crucial projects. I have to be honest: working in Software Quality Assurance Engineering wasn’t a glamorous job. There were times when we simply had to yield to the developers. But having the opportunity to try new features before they hit production, and having the pride of catching a critical bug, were all incredible rushes to have on the job.

There’s a product being launched tomorrow called the Secret Classroom, which will contain DVD videos of all the presentations given at the Next Internet Millionaire. I was going to go to sleep, but this site is just too cool for me to not write about. It’s Free Rice, and it’s a simple vocabulary game. I “donated” 110 grains of rice today by playing the game. It shows you a word, and you need to select another word with an equivalent meaning, out of 4 choices. For each one you get right, they donate 10 grains of rice to hungry people. The site’s advertisers ultimately pay for the rice, and I saw names like Macy’s, iTunes, and Toshiba. However, these might be simple affiliate links as I see they redirect through linksynergy.com. I guess rice is relatively inexpensive. They have a sweet domain name– FreeRice.com– and an attractive website design, as well.
I’ve started using the Yahoo! Publisher Network again, after dropping them completely for a year. Actually, looking back on my payment history now, I actually did fairly well with them.
