I voted before class this morning by dropping off my completed mail-in ballot at my assigned polling place. Got my “I Voted” sticker. Technically, I can drop the ballot off at any polling place in Los Angeles County. But I chose to go to my assigned polling place just in case. It’s only 0.8 mi away, so it was a nice walk. It was at a nice church, and I passed a lot of interesting businesses along the way– including a small mom & pop type of computer store. If I had more time, I’d drop in and check it out. Looking through the door, it looked like they had tons of semi-old computer stuff.

On the way back to my apartment, I was listening to AM 740, “K-Bright” KBRT. Today is September 11, 2008. They had a special feature in which they recounted the events of September 11, 2001. As they talked about plane crashes, the actions of the FAA, the buildings collapsing… tears welled up in my eyes. But no tears fell yet.

Yesterday was a big day for Ron Paul supporters.

On just one day, in honor of the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, the new American revolutionaries brought in $6.04 million, another one-day record. The average donation was $102; we had 58,407 individual contributors, of whom an astounding 24,915 were first-time donors. And it was an entirely voluntary, self-organized, decentralized, independent effort on the internet. Must be the “spammers” I keep hearing about!

Why Students support Ron Paul:
I was tempted to donate myself, but I decided not to, as I haven’t yet decided which candidate to support. The effort was organized on the internet at teaparty07.com, and I am impressed with how well they did. Their goal was $10 million in a single day; that would have far, far surpassed any previous records– but even $6.04 million is incredible. This beats John Kerry’s record after he was selected for the Democratic Party’s nomination. Read the rest of this entry »
