Something funny happened today: while browsing with Firefox, phone numbers were getting cut off. Worse, they remained that way even when printed!

This prevented the printouts from being used as references, which defeats the purpose of printing it in the first place. The culprit?

Skype.

By default– in fact I don’t think it even gave me an option– it installed a Firefox extension which reformats anything that looks like a phone number, adds a flag, and turns it into a link to call that number with Skype. This could be useful, but…

1. I don’t use Skype.

2. It cut off phone numbers so they weren’t readable– even when printed.

This is really a terrible design on Skype’s part. Their extension affects all webpages, whether Gmail or more proprietary web services, like the one shown above. And as you can see, in some layouts, this can cause the phone numbers to get cut off.

This is extremely annoying and essentially means that the extension must be Disabled or Uninstalled. (Though I don’t really mind because I didn’t even want it in the first place.) I opted for the latter.
