Working on a Disk…
I’m working on a disk. It’s has some nasty bad areas on the disk, so much so that I can’t use Acronis True Image to clone the data. It’s probably not completely necessary that I resurrect the hard drive to a degree in which I can clone it, but I always consider a user’s system a scared place, I should try to keep the house exactly as it is.So, I’m running Spinrite on it right now. It’s attempt to clean up a whole host of bad sectors. I sure hope it’s able to get through it. All I can do now is sit and wait.
[Update] — About 40 hours into the scan, I wrote Spinrite’s tech support. They suggested I restart the scan at a percentage higher than where it seemed to be stuck. It was “stuck” at 9.446%. It wasn’t actually stuck, it was just progressing VERY slowly.
So, I restarted the scan at 10%. The scan completed within 20 minutes.
Just on a whim, I tried the clone again, and while Acronis did report several read errors, the errors were inconsequential! Yep! It cloned the disk. Awesome.
