I did some more research and these pages stood out.

Any fixes out there?

Update: I’ve spent a lot of time chatting with Apple Support and finally got transferred to an engineer named Mike. He promised that if I left him a voicemail, he would call me back later that day, but he never did. This was 2 days ago now.

This is finally starting to get noticed, there’s a story on AppleInsider this morning: New iMacs plagued by interface freezing issues

The one new iMac in our office is having lots of freezing problems, many times a day. I’m still having occasional issues with my 1G MBP but not nearly as bad, while it was better with new RAM, there are still a few freezes a week. Video drivers sound like a probable cause, though mine also seems to be related to operating temperature. I hope it’s not hardware, because a mail-in recall would be a huge inconvenience.

    Thanks for the link.

So far, my 2.4, 2GB RAM, 20″ iMac has been rock solid. The only problem I’ve encountered is that Safari froze once which required me to force quit it.
