My dad’s computer has the Gmail Notifier installed. For some time now, he’s been getting notifications when I get new emails. “Hey, that’s not my account!”

We tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it. Nope, still my email. There’s no option on the program to log out or log in. We use Firefox as our default browser, and nothing we did there had any effect.

The reason why the Gmail notifier logged into the wrong account is that it actually ties in with your Internet Explorer cookies. This is a pretty weird– and bad, in my opinion– way to do it.

Firing up Internet Explorer and clearing its cookies and cache fixed the problem.

Hope this helps someone.

Thank you! I tried clearing my FireFox cookies but I did not think of the IE ones… Why should I - I only use it for Windows Update.

For those who don’t wish to lose all their cookies,
    The specific cookie is here:
    %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\Cookies\*@mail.google*.txt

which equates to this on my computer:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Jeff\Cookies\jeff@mail.google[2].txt

    Thanks for the info!

    Thanks!

On my computer the cookies were:

    %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\Cookies\russellg@mail[1].txt
    and
    %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\Cookies\russellg@mail[3].txt

Go to Start / Run and enter this, to see the cookies folder:

    %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\Cookies
