Connection Refused to GoogleAdServices

I can’t figure out what’s wrong with this. “Connection was refused when attempting to contact www.googleadservices.com”

Nevermind… I’ve found the problem:

C:\Documents and Settings\Elliot>tracert googleadservices.com

Tracing route to googleadservices.com [127.0.0.1]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms localhost [127.0.0.1]

Trace complete.

It’s blocked in my HOSTS file (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc). I’ve commented the line containing the domain googleadservices.com, but now it says: “Unable to resolve target system name googleadservices.com.”

Edit the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS (on my install of Windows XP Home). Delete all lines that contain googleadservices.

Cluelessly removing the entry may work, but the point of having it there must have made sense once. I use hostman, which downloads a list of places I don’t want to be redirected to (or thru). googleadservices is one such place. Need to stop using google if they insist on capturing cookies, otherwise I tediously remove the front of the url which prevents me going directly to the site I WANT to go to.

  6. Eliot Lee got the right idea. What seems to be the issue is that we all jumped the gun and try to get some sort of AdBlock software. In my case, I was trying to get an AdBlocker for edge when there wasn’t one available and then resulted in having code that redirects any Ad that i click on.

To fix this issue go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\ on ur PC, right click any file that looks recently installed or modified, and open with notepad. If you quickly scan the notepad file for words such as “edge Adblocker” or “googleadservices” delete it. You can easily press CTRL + F and type in those words.

It worked for me and I’m happily cliking on Ads.
