Weedle based on wheedle?

I saw this from Dictionary.com Word of the Day.

wheedle \HWEE-d’l; WEE-d’l\, transitive verb:
1. To entice by soft words or flattery; to coax.
2. To gain or get by flattery or guile.

The pronunciation of this word is exactly the same as the Pokemon Weedle. A member of the original 150, #013 Weedle is a Bug and Poison type Pokemon and is one of the first that I caught in my Pokemon Red game.
